Last Chance for 2010!
As someone who has been in recovery for alcohol addiction, I recently came across an old email from a friend in AA who has been doing well in sobriety. He had this to say about the upcoming New Years festivities: " ...stay sober, talk to your sponsor, do your step work, stay involved in the program, stay busy outside of the program, help another alcoholic when you can and get to some meetings when you can." I know how hard that last part can be what with school and work and all, especially for me, seems like one week I'll make 3 to 5 meetings, then the next I can only make 1 or 2 for whatever reason. So long as I do all the stuff before that (i.e. talk my sponsor, step work, help others, blah blah blah) and so long as I don't take drink over missing a few meetings - I do alright.
I helps to remember the steps laid out in the program of AA. There are a 12 steps and 12 traditions (and then the "promises") which are there to get you going in sobriety, give you prayers and meditations, and offer advice for keeping you from triggering a relapse.
I just have to remember step Zero: No matter what, don't drink even if your ass falls off.
I honestly have never witnessed somebodies ass falling off, but I'll keep doing that anyway.
